When? Pick any day that best fits your schedule!

What Can You Do? Invite a local government official into your class as a speaker-visit city hall-research the history of your city-hold a discussion on sales tax revenues--brainstorm an issue facing your school, city, state, or country--hold a debate on that issue and develop an action plan to solve that issue.

Why? To introduce students to the important role local government plays in their community

Program Name

MY LOGO is the new name for the Local Government Program(formerly Local Government CECH-UP). The name stands for "Missouri Youth Engaged in Local Government."

Program Director

Sandy Diamond, M.Ed., is the the MY LOGO Program Director. She also serves as Director for Kids Voting Missouri. Both programs are part of the Citizenship Education Clearing House at the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Education.

Prior to joining UMSL in 1999, Sandy was the Newspapers in Education (NIE) Coordinator for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and also taught government/civics for the Hazelwood School District.

NOTE: Dr. B stands for Dr. Marvin Beckerman, Ph.D, Educational Administration, Syracuse University. Dr. Beckerman is the current Chairperson of the CECH Advisory Board at UMSL and is past Program Director for the Local Government Program. Dr. Beckerman retired from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2003. Prior to joining UMSL in 1993, Dr. Beckerman served as the Executive Director of the Citizenship Education Clearning House (CECH) for five years (1988-1993).
